Spring Updates: 2 Events

We’ve got two great events coming up this week that you should all attend.

First, Women In Law and Lambdas will be screening Miss Representation on Tuesday, March 6 at 5 PM in room C50! Pizza will be served! Screening of the movie will be followed by a discussion by Professor Baker!

Here’s a little bit about the film: Like drawing back a curtain to let bright light stream in, Miss Representation uncovers a glaring reality we live with every day but fail to see. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself.

Second, on Wednesday, March 7, the Immigration Law Society and the Lambdas will be hosting a panel in Room 370 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the Defense of Marriage Act and its effect on immigration law, titled “Challenging DOMA in the Immigration Context.” Speakers include: Justin Burton, Partner at Kriezelman Burton & Associates, and Keren Zwick, supervising staff attorney for the National Immigrant Justice Center’s LGBT Immigrant Rights Initiative. Food will be provided! Feel free to e-mail any questions to Pete Henry (PeterMHenry@gmail.com).
